Q. What is Mohs Surgery?

A. Named in honor of Dr. Frederic Mohs, the physician who developed the technique, Mohs surgery is a highly specialized treatment for the total removal of skin cancer. In her onsite lab, Dr. Galloway surgically removes and evaluates the pathology of the skin cancer before closing or reconstructing the wound.

Q. What are my chances of cure?

A. By using Mohs surgery patient cure rate is over 99% for most types of skin cancers, even when other forms of treatment have failed.

 

 Q. will i be hospitalized?

A. No. Dr. Galloway performs surgery from the comfort of her office so you are in and out in just a few hours.

 Q. Will I have a scar after mohs surgery?

A. Yes, however because Mohs surgery requires far less removal of normal tissue the scarring is minimized.

 

Q. Will I experience any pain after the surgery?

A. Pain after surgery is minimal and Tylenol is generally sufficient for most patients. Dr. Galloway may prescribe a stronger pain medication if necessary.

Q. How should I care for the wound?

A. Most patients will need to wear a bandage for at least a week. Dr. Galloway will provide detailed wound care instructions and will see you for a follow-up appointment to evaluate how the wound is healing.

A. We accept Medicare and all major insurance carriers. Please verify your coverage with our office and your insurance carrier prior to surgery.
